Colleagues,
In September, Gannett Wisconsin newspapers made a public records request to the UW System for the salaries of all employees who make more than $25,000 annually. Because the salaries of all state employees are a matter of public record, we supplied the information regarding wages for people on our campus. The information included overtime and overload pay. We understand Gannett Wisconsin plans to publish the information online on Jan. 3 and a story will run in those newspapers on Jan. 6. We know that salary information requests were also made to other state agencies. At this point we do not have any further information on how the records will be used. Gannett Wisconsin includes the following newspapers: The Post-Crescent, Appleton; Action Advertising, Inc., Fond du Lac; The Reporter, Fond du Lac; Green Bay Press-Gazette; Herald Times Reporter, Manitowoc, Marshfield News-Herald; Oshkosh Northwestern; The Sheboygan Press; Stevens Point Daily Journal; Wausau Daily Herald; The Daily Tribune, Wisconsin Rapids. We wanted to make you aware that this information will be released. If you have questions, please contact Sara Kuhl, director of University Marketing and Media Relations at kuhls@uww.edu or 262-472-1194.
Sincerely,
Chancellor Richard Telfer
