The Chancellor’s Office has received word that Margaret Mueller, of Whitewater, passed away two days before her 103rd birthday on March 30. Mueller became an early childhood educator at UW-Whitewater, where she taught from 1954 to 1975.
In 1985, Mueller led the way in forging CAPS–Cultural Affairs in the Public Schools. Initially started to serve the public schools of Whitewater, CAPS expanded to become the Horizons Program with a mission to support the curriculum of schools by providing culturally diverse programs for K-12 students. It continues to this day at Young Auditorium.
In addition, Margaret received the Roseman Excellence in Teaching Award and was the founder of the Children’s Center.
At Mueller’s request, a private interment was held on April 5. There will be a public celebration of Mueller's life on Sunday, April 27, in the Fern Young Terrace at the Young Auditorium from 1 - 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Horizons Program University Foundation at UW-Whitewater.
The Campus Flag will be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, April 27, in her honor.
