The City of Whitewater Police Department recently made an arrest in which a person was charged with several drug-related charges, including possession of GHB, often referred to as the “date rape drug.”
GHB can cause headaches, hallucinations, dizziness, confusion, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, agitation, diarrhea, sexual arousal, numbing of legs, vision problems, tightness of chest, mental changes, combativeness, memory loss, serious breathing and heart problems, seizures, coma, and death.
Whitewater Police and UW-Whitewater Police Services urge people to be cautious when accepting drinks from others and leaving drinks unattended while at social settings. If you experience any symptoms or notice a friend is acting very unusually in a social setting, please call for medical assistance immediately and contact police.
The UW-Whitewater Dean of Students Office (262-472-1533) and UW-Whitewater Police Services (262-472-4660) are excellent resources if you have questions or concerns, or if you want to file a report.
