Dear Student,
It is now time for students to begin preparing to apply for financial aid for the 2015-2016 academic year. You may complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the web at www.fafsa.gov. The federal processor will determine your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and the Financial Aid Office at UW-Whitewater will determine your financial need and what federal and state programs you are eligible for.
*Note: For the best result and most accurate information please file your and your parents' taxes as soon as possible so that you are using accurate information form the completed tax forms.
* Note: Do not apply for financial aid at www.fafsa.com as it is a fee-based preparation and advising company. You will be charged a fee! Financial aid administrators on campus can answer any of your questions for free. STUDENTS SHOULD NEVER PAY MONEY FOR APPLYING FOR AND/OR RECEIVING FINANCIAL AID. This includes scholarships as well.
You may have already received correspondence from College Financial Advisory or will receive it soon. Several students have inquired about a letter that they recently received from this company. The letter has your name and address on it and looks rather official. They are asking you to submit a Student Aid Profile Form in applying for financial aid with the 2015-2016 College Financial Advisory student aid program for between $65 to $80 processing fee. The processing fee is returned within ten business days to students who do not qualify or do not receive financial aid money. What they don’t tell you is that all students will qualify for some type of financial aid – it may be only an Unsubsidized Loan or a Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). Thus, your investment would never be refunded to you.
Statistics show that many students across the country are scammed every year by companies like this; don’t become a statistic!
