Test of emergency message systems on March 7
At 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7, the UW-Whitewater Police Department will conduct a test of the emergency message systems.
You will hear several messages including the “Tornado Warning” and the “Run, Hide, Fight” message. Please take a moment to pause and think what you would do in each of these situations as the messages are activated. People in classrooms are encouraged to look at the Nightlock door security devices to understand how they work — we only ask that these life safety devices be returned to their boxes after the drill. An instruction card is attached to this email.
If you have questions on what to do in a real emergency, there are several resources. In each classroom, there is a purple Emergency Procedures book attached to the instructor desk with response information for various events. These procedures can also be found on the UW-Whitewater Police Department website.
Also, the UW-Whitewater Police Department is hosting a Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) class the day before the drill on Wednesday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to noon in the University Center, room 69. There is also an advanced CRASE class on Tuesday, March 12, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the University Center, room 69.
If you have any questions you can reach the University Police Department at 262-472-4660, police@uww.edu, or Lt. Jason Burt at 262-472-6967.
