Greetings from Chancellor Dwight C. Watson
Dear Campus Colleagues,
It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I greet you today. I am humbled and honored to be the 17th chancellor of this outstanding university. We have much to be proud of on our campuses, and each of you has, in your own special way, contributed to the success. No organization is successful because of one leader. Strong universities, like UW-Whitewater, are the result of the collective wisdom, strength and commitment of those who came before and the dedication of the current students, faculty and staff, and community members who support the mission, values and vision of the institution. In order to launch the future, we must honor the past.
As I begin my tenure at UW-Whitewater, I want to assure you that I will listen, learn, and lead. I plan to listen to students, faculty, staff and the community. I plan to learn all I can about the university, the region and all of you. And I will then work with all of you to help lead our university to greater achievements. I hope each of you views today with excitement and enthusiasm for the important work we undertake.
I am also counting on each of you to be open and honest with me as we learn more about one another. We will have an opportunity to do just that at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, in the University Center, room 275. I plan to continue the long-held tradition on this campus of having these opportunities to share news, accomplishments and concerns with the chancellor.
I also want to thank Dr. Cheryl Green for her outstanding leadership over these past seven months. With all of you right beside her, she has accomplished a great deal including helping to close the Sesquicentennial Campaign, which raised more than $17 million, exceeding the original $15 million goal. Dr. Green also was a great support in the vital work of Strategic Enrollment Planning. I know many of you deeply appreciated her knowledge, her supportive approach to the work of the campus divisions and her great love for and pride in all that makes UW-Whitewater so special. I hope she will always consider herself a proud member of the Warhawk family.
Thank you all for the kind words of support that I have received as we begin this new journey. As I said, I am excited and eager to begin our work together.
Sincerely.
Dr. Dwight C. Watson
Chancellor
