Happy PRIDE Warhawks!
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater pauses to celebrate members of the LGBTQ+ community who are part of our Warhawk Family. Pride month is historically commemorated during June, which gives us an opportunity to recognize all that has been accomplished to advance the rights of LGBTQ+ people, their families, and loved ones in Wisconsin, the United States, and around the globe.
At the same time, we must acknowledge that we are living through unprecedented times. It is important to recognize the inherent diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and the central role that LGBTQ+ people of color play in advancing intersectional equity. As stated in our core values of Diversity and Opportunity and Social Responsibility, UW-Whitewater celebrates our LBGTQ+ Warhawks, and we continue to strive for equality for all.
While we cannot fully celebrate Pride as we would like during this pandemic, UW-Whitewater will raise the Pride flag to recognize this month as a time of celebration and reflection. We recognize the true grit and resiliency that many have demonstrated in their quest for freedom to simply be their authentic selves. We hope to continue the work together to make UW-Whitewater a place where all identities are welcomed and embraced.
Warm Warhawk Regards,
Dr. Kenny E. Yarbrough
