Dear campus community,
I invite and encourage you to watch the recorded Webex Event “Racism in Athletics and Sports."
This powerful and insightful program, which aired live on Tuesday, includes the voices and lived experiences of members of our campus community and invited guests as we reflect upon race and racism in Athletics and Sports in America and we search for ways to move the conversation and our society forward. I’d like to thank our participants for their honesty, bravery, and heartfelt comments at a time when we are all learning and looking for constructive ways to live in a fragmented society. This panel gave various facets of how Racism in Athletics and Sports impacts individuals and group settings.
Our panelists included:
- Ryan Callahan, Interim Director of Athletics
- Kevin Bullis, Football Coach and Stadium Manager
- Logan Edwards, Assistant Professor of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching
- Melva Black, Assistant Dean of Humanities at Volunteer State Community College
- Felicia Miller Watson, Attorney of Law and a UW-Whitewater Alumna
Many questions from students, faculty and staff were also addressed during the presentation.
