Video link to "Racism in Academia"
Dear campus community,
I invite and encourage you to watch the recorded Webex Event “Racism in Academia."
This powerful and insightful program, which aired live on Tuesday, includes the voices and lived experiences of members of our campus community and invited guests as we reflect upon race and racism in Academia in America and we search for ways to move the conversation and our society forward. I’d like to thank our participants for their honesty, bravery, and heartfelt comments at a time when we are all learning and looking for constructive ways to live in a fragmented society.
Our panelists included:
- Edgar Diaz-Cruz, Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical, Social and Administrative Sciences in the College of Pharmacy at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee
- Kenneth Harris, Program Director for the Master's in Organizational Leadership Administration program, Department Chair for Justice and Public Policy, and Chair on the JPP Advisory and OLA advisory councils at Concordia University Wisconsin
- Benjamin Graves, Music Faculty/Department Chair at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee
- Kathy Brady, Professor/Department Chair of Communication at UW-Whitewater
- Shaqwana Freeman-Green, Assistant Professor in the Department of Specialized Education Services at University of North Carolina, Greensboro
- Ozalle Toms, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Diversity, Engagement and Success at UW-Whitewater
Many questions from students, faculty and staff were also addressed during the presentation.
