The Student Accounts Office and the Financial Aid Office are excited to announce a change to our Release of Information forms.
Background: FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, sets forth requirements regarding the privacy of student records. FERPA generally prohibits the release of confidential personally identifiable student data without the student’s consent. Parents, guardians, and spouses have no inherent or legal rights to receive information about the student’s education records, regardless of the student’s age, without the written consent of the student.
What is Changing? Previously if you wanted either office to be able to speak to your parents or spouse regarding Financial Aid and/or Student Account information, you had to complete a separate form for each office. Effective today, you only have to complete one form and it will work for both offices!
What You Need to Do If you would like the Student Accounts Office and/or the Financial Aid Office to discuss your financial aid/student account information without you being present, you need to complete the new Release of Information form. Any previous authorization forms you completed for our offices are now null and void. We will be unable to discuss your student account/financial aid information with anyone but you until you complete this new combined release of information form.
You can complete the new combined Release of Information form by following these steps:
Log in to WINS
Select the Student Financial Account tile
Select the Account Inquiry tile
Select Release Financial Info
You can also access the new combined Release of Information form through the financial aid tile. It does not matter which tile you use to complete the new form, as long as you complete it via one tile, both offices will receive your release.
Please contact either of our offices with any questions.
