Important Information about Video-Enabled/HyFlex classrooms
Good morning instructors,
As the technology for the new video-enabled Hyflex rooms is being installed and tested, several key points regarding teaching should be noted in these rooms. This information is specific to the following list of rooms. Academic colleges may be providing other solutions in other rooms and questions/support should be directed to your academic college for technology in those rooms.

1. The use of chat will not be available when using a live-stream from a HyFlex room.
The technology used to provide video and audio in the classrooms does not allow for chat to be displayed on the screens. Instructors should inform students that if they will be interacting in a live-streamed session of a class, they will need to use audio. Students calling in can still use audio even if they do not have video turned on. A benefit of this situation is that instructors will not need to monitor the chat as they conduct their lessons.
2. Students with only low bandwidth access to the internet may be best supported with asynchronous options or preference for in-class presence when possible.
Students of course can make their own decisions about the format of participation as permitted by an instructor. Since live-stream interaction will likely require video and audio, if bandwidth is a concern, students may be best advised to watch an asynchronous recording later. If a class is HyFlex and a student is close to campus, it may be worth considering giving students without high bandwidth access priority for attending class physically.
3. Live captioning will not be automatically available. Students should work through the Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) for this accommodation to be provided.
The campus does not have the resources to provide automatic live captioning for all HyFlex, live-streamed class sessions. Any sessions recorded on Webex will have captioning available within 24 hours. Students who have a need for live captioning during the live stream should work through CSD in the same manner as needing captioning or signing services for other courses.
