Racial and Social Justice at UW-Whitewater
Dear Campus Community,
In response to racial and civil unrest our country experienced over the summer and currently, the Chancellor’s Cabinet wanted to create meaningful and tangible initiatives that could engage our campus community. An initiative grid was created to engage the university community in agency, advocacy, action and accountability solutions.
The attached grid shows items from each division in terms of:
- Immediate action
- Action within the academic year
- Long-term action
In addition to these steps by the divisions, our Black Student Union (BSU) in conjunction with our Whitewater Student Government (WSG) hosted a Unity Walk in September to address Black Lives Matter. Both organizations presented a list of demands to the administration. Those demands are also captured on this page and will be monitored by Dr. Yarbrough. The grid can be viewed at: https://www.uww.edu/division-of-equity-diversity-inclusion-and-support-programs/social-justice
The Cabinet has chosen to address these issues head-on and we are asking that our Warhawk community continue to assist us. Any questions or concerns regarding this work should be directed to Dr. Yarbrough (YarbrouK@uww.edu).
As Warhawks, we stand poised and ready to tackle these timely initiatives in a spirit of collaboration, cooperation and community.
As Warhawks, we know, “It is always the right time to do the right thing. And the right time is now.” -- Coach Kevin Bullis
