National Pride Month message from Chancellor Watson
Happy Pride Warhawks! As the country pauses to celebrate National Pride Month, I wish to send positive greetings of celebration and PRIDE to our Warhawk Community. As the University’s first openly gay Chancellor, I felt it necessary to share how important this month means to so many people, especially me. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am elated to see the progress our nation has made toward equality. While we still have work to do, I am hopeful that our Warhawk community can serve as a beacon of hope and encouragement for those who are in the community as well as those who are still questioning their place in the world. We appreciate our wonderful allies that stand beside us. We pause to commemorate and honor those pioneering trailblazers who came before us to pave the way for us to be proud. We especially want to remember those who are no longer with us due to senseless violence. As we continue in the work of education, we realize we stand on the shoulders of brave persons who, as Dylan Thomas penned, did not go gently into that good night. Let’s continue to show our Warhawk Pride as we forge onward to new heights and depths.
Your Proud Chancellor,
Dr. Dwight C. Watson
