Zoom video conferencing
On August 16, 2021, UW System Administration (UWSA) enabled UW-Whitewater users to access the Zoom video conferencing platform both through Canvas and the Zoom website using your UW-W Net-ID.
What does this mean for UW-Whitewater?
Only those who previously used Zoom for instructional or business purposes will be impacted by this change. Cisco Webex remains our campus-supported solution for video conferencing. Webex integrations with Canvas, Microsoft Office, and other platforms have made teaching, learning, and working very successful experiences.
What happens if I already paid for a Zoom license?
If you (or your department) registered for a Zoom account using your @uww.edu email address, you will be prompted to migrate your account to the managed domain. Paid accounts will be credited for the unused portion of their registration. Users who wish to maintain a personal account will need to associate their account with a new email address.
Will I be able to install Zoom on my UW-Whitewater computer?
Anyone can launch a Zoom from a web browser without installation of the app. For installation assistance, please contact the Help Desk. To assure a secure computing environment, ICIT will provide managed updates for Zoom applications installed on campus computers. In addition, Zoom will soon require users to have current versions installed before joining meetings.
Zoom offers 24/7 Chat, Email and Phone Support available right inside of the application. Training and workshops opportunities will be handled centrally by UWSA. The UW-Whitewater Help Desk and the Learning Technology Center can only provide very limited Zoom support.
