Instructors,
Thank you to all for sharing UW-Whitewater’s commitment to protect the safety of UW-Whitewater faculty, staff, and students.
One way you can choose to help minimize the impact of COVID-19 on our classrooms is by submitting any seating charts you may be using in your classroom to the COVID-19 hotline. In a situation where there is a positive case in an in-person classroom, contact tracers would be able to contact students and faculty/instructors as needed if they are aware of general proximity in the classroom.
There are three easy steps to submitting seating charts:
- .Create an approximate seating chart
- Canvas has a tool to make this easier (directions can be found in this link and this 3 minute video). If your classroom is not in rows and columns, estimate an approximate location.
- Other seating charts also work! They are helpful if they include the students’ names to match with WINS course enrollment rosters.
- Take a screenshot or pdf of the seating chart.
- Email the seating chart to COVID-19 hotline (covid19info@uww.edu) with course number, course name, section number, instructor, and effective start date. Please send one email per course.
You do not need to ask students to stay in those seats all year or report daily attendance. If large classroom changes occur, you can update by sending in a new seating chart.
Hybrid with alternate attendance days, a seating chart can be created for each group of students meeting face-to-face.
Other ways to help:
- Encourage the common student behavior of sitting in the same general location so that they get to know others around them.
- Include activities in the first week of classes where students get to know the names of those sitting next to them and possibly share contact information.
- Remind students to wash their hands, wear facial coverings, stay home if they are sick and that vaccination is the most effective tool to reduce spread of COVID-19. A PowerPoint slide is attached, which you are welcome to use during your in-person classes and meetings as a reminder to students.
Thank you!
