Joint message from Chancellor Henderson, College Democrats and College Republicans on freedom of expression and speech
Dear university community,
In light of upcoming elections, I am joining with the College Democrats and College Republicans to renew our dedication to the freedom of expression and freedom of speech with this joint statement:
“Election years and the political discourse that comes with them can be contentious and sometimes divisive, but our organizations would like to remind everyone that this doesn’t have to be the case. At UW-Whitewater, we take the words in our mission statement very seriously and strive to uphold diversity of thoughts and ideas in order to build an inclusive educational community.”
Furthermore, the College Democrats and College Republicans invite students to engage with them in vigorous dialogue that respects free speech:
“The College Democrats and College Republicans of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater are committed to maintaining goodwill and therefore discourage any acts that contradict free speech. We condemn all political hate and vandalism and call on our fellow Warhawk family to do the same. There is no place for vandalism or disruption on our campus. Rather, we invite those who disagree with us to join our respective meetings each week.”
The College Democrats meet every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Hyland Hall 1311. The College Republicans meet every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Hyland Hall 2203.
Thank you,
Jim Henderson
Interim Chancellor
