Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day
Warhawk Community,
I encourage each of you to join me in celebrating International Women’s Day and to take time during Women’s History Month throughout March to reflect on the incredible contributions women make to our world. The leadership contributions of women throughout history have been incredibly important and often undervalued.
Foundational work by Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper make our information technology world possible. Dolores Heurta’s leadership in gaining rights for farm workers provides a wonderful example of work that has benefited so many. Golda Meier grew up in Milwaukee before becoming the first female leader of Israel.
We have outstanding examples of women making a difference here on our campus, from Tracy Hawkins and her work with faculty governance to Ozalle Toms and her perseverance and achievement despite incredible obstacles.
Let’s celebrate all of the women who make all of our lives so much better.
