April third-party application updates

ICIT will be issuing a monthly update for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox for most university-owned devices on Monday, April 18 at 7 a.m. with a required installation of that day at noon. This update will move forward ahead of our normal time frame due to the issuance of an urgent, critical update to correct vulnerabilities with Google Chrome. 

Please see more information on what is included in the patch. Details about the process:

• PC/Windows users can install the update starting April 18 using the self-service option starting at 7 a.m. Before running the update, close Chrome and Firefox. For more information, please see this article on Windows computer updates.
• All devices on the campus network will see a required update pushed on Monday, April 18 at noon. Please close Chrome and Firefox just before noon if you have not installed it prior to that time. Your computer will not be shut down. 
• ICIT asks remote users to close Chrome and Firefox and then connect to Cisco AnyConnect VPN for a few hours to complete the update as soon as possible after noon on Monday, April 18.
• If you are not prompted for the update you may already be running the required version of Chrome (100.0.4896.88) and Firefox (99.0.1). Please note, update versions may change without notice due to the fluidity of the situation.
  
  
• macOS devices will receive a pushed update that will run silently in the background. Refer to this article for more information on Mac updates.
• Employees not on the campus network are asked to connect to Cisco AnyConnect VPN for a few hours to complete the update anytime after 7 a.m. on Monday.
  

• Lab/classroom computers will be updated on Friday, April 15 at 11 p.m. No action will be required and all computers will be ready to use by the next morning.
  
  
• We recommend everyone update their personal devices to the latest version of Google Chrome. For information, please see How to Update Chrome to the Latest Version.
