2024-2025 FAFSA Delayed and Changes to the Application
Due to the number of changes being implemented by the U.S. Department of Education, the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be delayed from the usual October 1 release date to sometime in December 2023. A more precise FAFSA availability date will be provided once it is published by the Department of Education.
2024-2025 FAFSA changes include:
- Number of FAFSA questions will be reduced
- Required transfer of income and tax data from the IRS
- Potentially more FAFSA contributors needing an FSA ID
- Replacement of the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) with the Student Aid Index (SAI)
- How information is reported for divorced or separated parents
- Number of family members in college no longer factored
- Inclusion of family farm and small business net worth
- Federal Pell Grant eligibility determination
