The Research Apprenticeship Program (RAP) provides eligible students with an hourly paid research opportunity to assist faculty/staff mentors with their research projects for up to 125 hours in one academic year. Mentors can claim $200 per RAP student towards eligible research-related expenses and supplies. This program is meant to expose students to research through a mentored apprenticeship in the first or second year of their academic degree.
Why mentor for RAP?
- Student Support: build strong working relationships with students; receive student support for research tasks; help students learn, grow, and develop skills; connect students with their research passions
- Research Assistance: receive funds for research-related expenses; improve your communication and mentoring skills; engage in teaching activity for promotion and tenure; grow research projects that are qualified to be funded on state or national levels
- Continued Relationship: start by working with one, two, or three RAP students during their Freshman or Sophomore year; continue working with them as Juniors and Seniors via additional Undergraduate Research Program (URP) funding opportunities
