Temporary road closure and pedestrian safety reminder
In collaboration with the City of Whitewater, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will be temporarily closing Starin Road to vehicle traffic to improve pedestrian safety. The closure will begin on Monday, Oct. 7, and last through Friday, Oct. 18, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The affected area (map attached) will be between Prince Street and Prairie Street, just east of Warhawk Drive to just east of the Bookstore. The driveway on the east side of the Bookstore will remain open for deliveries and access.
This two-week closure is intended to gather data on potential pedestrian safety benefits during the busiest times on campus. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes, such as County Road U, Schwager Drive, or Main Street.
As a reminder, pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility. Please keep the following tips in mind:
- Avoid distractions: Refrain from looking at your phone or wearing headphones when crossing streets.
- Use designated crosswalks: Always use marked crosswalks and look both ways before crossing.
- Stay alert: Be cautious and aware of your surroundings, especially at intersections.
These measures aim to enhance safety for everyone on campus. Let’s all stay aware and keep campus pathways safe for everyone.
