Institutional priority update
Good day!
In line with our commitment to providing fair and competitive compensation, this message highlights advancements in compensation for our employees. Through a combination of system-wide adjustments and institutional initiatives, we are making important progress in recognizing the dedication and contributions of our faculty and staff. Below is a summary of the compensation updates, including increases implemented and planned for this fiscal year.
— PAY PLAN —
UW-Whitewater has championed salary increases through the pay plan, collaborating closely with the UW System to implement these adjustments effectively.
- A 4% and a 2% pay plan increase was implemented for the 2023-2025 biennium, effective July 2023 and July 2024.
- Looking ahead, we are advocating for a 5% and 3% pay plan increase for the next biennium.
— INSTITUTIONAL PRIORITIES —
UW-Whitewater has actively engaged with shared governance to advance compensation priorities, even amidst a structural budget deficit. Our collaborative efforts focus on moving forward with key compensation priorities, such as addressing salary compression, identified through ongoing discussions with governance groups.
Fiscal Year 23/24
- Increased the minimum wage from $15 to $17.
- Implemented a 1% salary increase for full professors.
Fiscal Year 24/25
Instructional overloads and adjunct pay contracts
- Effective Fall 2024, we increased the minimum overload pay to $5,000 for a 3-credit class.
- Effective January 2025, we will increase the minimum adjunct pay to $5,000 for a 3-credit class.
Winterim/Summer contracts
- Effective Winterim 2025, the regular course winterim overload and summer compensation rates will increase by $100 per credit hour.
Compression adjustments
Addressing salary compression remains a priority for the campus. Based on the input from each individual governance group:
- Academic Staff with 10 or more years in their current position will receive a 1% increase on their base pay.
- University Staff with 10 or more years in their current position will receive a 1% increase on their base pay.
- Faculty with 10 or more years in their faculty position (regardless of rank) will receive a base pay increase. This base pay increase is allocated as a flat dollar amount from the 1% salary pool. This is the allocation method identified by the faculty compensation committee and the faculty senate.
These increases will be effective January 2025. Employees who receive the adjustment will be notified by UWSA payroll.
We remain steadfast in our advocacy for the pay plan in the 2025-2027 budget. We remain committed to working with shared governance compensation groups to guide and prioritize our ongoing efforts. As communicated throughout the past year, our ability to provide additional compensation adjustments beyond system-wide increases depends on our progress in meeting enrollment, retention, and budgetary goals.
Sincerely,
Chancellor Corey A. King
