Call For Research Apprenticeship Program (RAP) Mentors

The Research Apprenticeship Program (RAP) provides eligible students (freshman, sophomores and transfer students) with an hourly paid research opportunity to assist faculty/staff mentors with their research projects for up to 125 hours in one academic year. Mentors can claim $200 per RAP student towards eligible research-related expenses and supplies. This program is meant to expose students to research through a mentored apprenticeship in the first or second year of their academic degree.

Students from any discipline on campus are eligible to apply. Applications from faculty should include as much detail of their project as possible. There are no research priorities set by URP and thus, we will entertain applications from all disciplines.

Why mentor for RAP?
- Student Support:  build strong working relationships with students; receive student support for research tasks; help students learn, grow, and develop skills; connect students with their research passions
- Research Assistance:  receive funds for research-related expenses; improve your communication and mentoring skills; engage in teaching activity for promotion and tenure; grow research projects that are qualified to be funded on state or national levels
- Continued Relationship:  start by working with one, or two RAP students during their first years on campus; continue working with them in future years via additional Undergraduate Research Program (URP) funding opportunities
