Wow—a new academic year is here!

Hello Faculty and Instructional Academic Staff,

As we prepare to welcome students back to campus tomorrow, there is a truly tangible sense of excitement across UW-Whitewater. As we all feel on a very personal level, the start of a new academic year brings renewed energy to our classrooms and campuses, and I am grateful for the outstanding experiences you create for our students. 

This is a particularly exhilarating moment for our university. Across campus, we see both the physical manifestation of our investment in infrastructure for the future of our campus, as well as the fruits of your mental work in engaging students through the most up-to-date curricula and programs. At the same time, we are beginning the important work of developing our academic plan for the years ahead. Together, these efforts represent both our confidence in the strong foundation of UW-Whitewater and our commitment to what comes next.

As we continue to build on the strengths that have made UW-Whitewater successful, I look forward to learning together with you. In my first year as provost, I am eager to learn from the diverse experiences, expertise, and creativity that exist throughout our university while exploring new opportunities to advance student success, expand access, and strengthen our impact. We will stay the course on our mission and values while continuing to position UW-Whitewater as a leader in developing innovative pathways for students. Through collaboration across our colleges, Rock County and Whitewater campuses, and partnerships that extend our reach, we will continue advancing the goals of our strategic plan and creating new opportunities for our students, employees, and communities.

I also encourage you to consider this year's Teaching and Learning Grant opportunities, which support the ongoing work of enhancing student learning and success through digital accessibility and Universal Design for Learning. These grants reflect our continued and shared commitment to innovation, excellence, and continual growth as educators. I look forward to seeing the ideas and approaches that emerge from these opportunities at the Celebrating Teaching and Learning Conference in May.
