As we begin the fall semester, I want to share a reminder about the resources available to help our campus stay informed and navigate ongoing federal activity affecting higher education.
Federal Updates and Federal Fridays
The Universities of Wisconsin Federal Updates website continues to be your first stop for information about federal developments that may affect our campus. The site provides updates on federal agency actions, regulatory changes, litigation, congressional activity and other issues being monitored by the Universities of Wisconsin Federal Updates Workgroup. The Federal Friday updates available through the site also provide timely information on significant developments and emerging issues across higher education.
Official Comments on Proposed Federal Rulemaking
Federal agencies continue to issue proposed rules and other actions that may invite public comment. If you or your unit are considering submitting comments on behalf of UW-Whitewater or in your official capacity as a university employee, please connect first with your supervisor, dean or unit administrator. Institutional comments should be coordinated through the appropriate university channels and, when necessary, with Universities of Wisconsin Government Relations and General Counsel.
Faculty and staff retain the right to engage on matters of public concern as private citizens, on their own time and using their own resources. When doing so, please make clear that you are speaking in your personal capacity and not on behalf of UW-Whitewater.

Questions or Concerns
Federal developments can move quickly and may affect different areas of the university in different ways. If you have a question about how a federal action may affect your work, please connect with your supervisor, dean or unit administrator. Questions can then be elevated through the appropriate campus channels for review and guidance.

We will continue to monitor federal developments closely, engage our campus-based working group on issues most relevant to UW-Whitewater, and remain in active coordination with the Universities of Wisconsin.
