A’viands awarded UW-Whitewater Dining Services contract
Beginning June 1, 2017, A’viands, a Minnesota-based food service provider, will assume the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Dining Services contract, which has been held by Chartwells for nearly 20 years.
The contract was awarded following the efforts of students and staff members who, through the state procurement process, reviewed and scored proposed programs submitted by four companies. UW System Procurement led the process, and the Board of Regents formally approved the contract at its meeting on April 7.
“This will be a time of transition for dining services staff,” said Bob Barry, executive director of the James R. Connor University Center. “A’viands and the university will work to retain as many of the current dining services staff members as possible, as we still need them to provide the same great service to our campus. That includes part-time students, hourly full-time staff and managers. In order to further pursue their careers with Chartwells and other opportunities, some management staff will be leaving. As the new leadership team comes to campus, we will share additional information with our colleagues across campus and will discuss what the change will mean to each area.”
During the transition, all food service operations will continue to run as scheduled.
“We’d like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Chartwells, particularly our on-campus leaders Tom and Brenda Hinspater for their many years of great service and for contributing to the success of our campus and our community,” Barry said.
