2018 Fall Diversity Forum

The Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer and the Chancellor’s Committee on Inclusive Excellence cordially invite you to attend the 2018 Fall Diversity Forum, set to take place Oct. 7-9. Our theme, “Getting Comfortable with the Uncomfortable,” will present ways to engage in civil discourse. The Diversity Forum has been redesigned to offer a centrally-based approach to diversity topics.

This semester’s forum will highlight an evening of celebration on Sunday, Oct. 7. We will honor three pioneering Warhawks who have made significant strides for change in their tenure at the University.

Monday, Oct. 8, will feature President of Motlow State Community College and United States Air Force Veteran Michael Torrence. Dr. Torrence’s speech, “Bringing Civility to Civil Discourse,” promises to be an informative session, from which the audience will gain insight into civil discourse. The rest of the day will be composed of workshops and clinics where participants can gain practical, real-world examples of engaging in civil discourse.

The events of Tuesday, Oct. 9, will be student focused. Join our students as they lead the discussion on how to engage in civil discourse. Our newly hired Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Kenny Yarbrough, will make his first official address as CEDIO, which will be followed by targeted discussions on civil discourse for both faculty and staff. The forum’s culminating event will engage participants in a talking session geared to reinforce what was unpacked during the previous two days and to use this information to strategize for the Spring Diversity Forum. Come and share to assist in shaping the Spring Diversity Forum’s offerings for the campus.
