Dear Campus Community:
Thank you very much for your generous donations to the United Way of Jefferson & North Walworth Counties (UWJNWC) in 2017! We raised $9,691 from 48 donors, directly supporting 1,314 people in our community. United Way’s local partner agencies such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Recovery Support Center, Whitewater School District – Adult ESL, and Jefferson County Head Start to name a few, promote health, education, and financial stability in our area.
My goal this year is to increase UW-Whitewater’s contribution to $12,000 and increase our number of participating donors to 75. I realize there are many important causes and projects that need your support (the UW-Whitewater Sesquicentennial Fundraiser among them), but modest contributions can have a big impact. For instance, UWJNWC supports Ride United, a service that provides free transportation to and from local food pantries for those in need who otherwise would not have access. Last year, the service provided 545 rides. A recipient of this service sent UWJNWC a donation and beautiful letter of thanks once she got back on her feet. Your contributions helped her family through a difficult time, and she wanted to pass along that support to others in the community.
If you prefer to donate your time directly to assisting others, UWJNWC has a site where you can register for local volunteer opportunities: http://www.volunteermain.com/. While you are on the UWJNWC site (http://uwjnwc.com/), check out the 2018 United Way Campaign Video created by a talented UW-Whitewater student.
Many thanks again to our past donors. I will forward the pledge forms this week, and the campaign will run through Nov. 30. Those who donate by Friday, Nov. 9, will be entered in a drawing to receive a free parking permit for the Fall 2019/Spring 2020 academic year. Those who donate by Friday, Nov. 16, will be entered in a drawing for a signed Packers football. Any new gift of $25 or more, any gift that has increased from the most recent gift by $25 or more, or any gift over $250, automatically qualifies a donor to win one of four prizes that will be awarded: a laptop, an iPad, a high definition TV, and a Kindle Fire. Pledge forms are also available at http://bit.ly/UWJNWCPledge. Please return your completed pledge form to me at Kristen Burton, Business Outreach, Hyland Hall 4300J. I collect the forms and forward them all at the end of the campaign to the UWJNWC director.
Please contact me at burtonk@uww.edu or 262-472-7158 with any questions. I am very grateful for your generosity and community spirit!
Sincerely,
Kristen Burton
