One-time payments and faculty/staff professional development investments
Dear UW-Whitewater colleagues,
As we mark the conclusion of the academic year, I’d like to extend my thanks to all of you for your outstanding efforts on behalf of our students, and also share some news in support and recognition of our employees. The Chancellor’s Cabinet and I are making the following additional investments in our people:
One-time payments
In recognition of your hard work and dedication, I’m pleased to inform you that faculty, academic staff, university staff and those in permanent and project positions as of May 13 at both the Whitewater and Rock County campuses will receive a one-time payment of appreciation on the June 2 pay day. Full-time employees (1.00 FTE or greater) will receive $600, and part-time employees will receive between $100-$400, depending on your FTE appointment (.75 to .99 will receive $400; .50 to.74 will receive $200; and less than .50 will receive $100). Thank you to our staff in Human Resources and Diversity for going the extra mile to process these payments quickly.
Professional development
Beginning July 1, divisions will have the opportunity to award professional development funds to their employees to be used during the 2022-2023 fiscal year: $1,000 for faculty, $500 for academic staff, and $250 for university staff. Units will be providing additional information on the specific criteria and processes for accessing these funds. For faculty, please note this a separate allocation from the research dissemination funding announced earlier.
In addition, funding has been set aside for Human Resources and Diversity to coordinate leadership training opportunities and support for our faculty and staff across the university.
The one-time payments and professional development programming will be funded by federal dollars as distributed by the State of Wisconsin.
Tuition reimbursement
As we look to retain outstanding people and promote degree completion and attainment for our employees, tuition reimbursement will be reinstated as part of our institutional budget. Reimbursement will apply to academic courses taken at UW-Whitewater. Further details will be communicated in a later announcement.
Employee appreciation event
A reminder that we will hold an employee appreciation event today, Wednesday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hamilton Room of the James R. Connor University Center. It will feature a build-your-own sundae bar, a trail mix station and a variety of lawn games, as we enjoy some time together.
I look forward to celebrating with you!
Sincerely,
John Chenoweth, Ed.D.
Interim Chancellor
